Feature Film “One Last One” to Film in Northwood and Art Farm Iowa This October
Meet the Filmmakers’ Exhibition to Take Place on Saturday, September 5th
The City of Northwood and Art Farm Iowa will take center stage this October as the independent feature film One Last One begins principal photography throughout the community during the second half of the month.
Written, directed, produced, and starring Dakota Loesch, One Last One brings an acclaimed independent filmmaker to rural Iowa for a production that will showcase the region's unique landscapes, architecture, and sense of place. Loesch is an award-winning actor and screenwriter whose previous feature, Anchorage, earned international recognition for its performances and screenplay.
Joining Loesch is executive producer and actress Amy Tsang, who also stars in the film. Together, the filmmakers are bringing a collaborative, independent filmmaking approach to Northwood, working with local partners and utilizing locations throughout the community, and featuring Art Farm Iowa for a key portion of filming.
"We're thrilled to welcome Dakota Loesch, Amy Tsang, and the entire One Last One production team to Northwood," said Steve Hanson, founder of Art Farm Iowa. "This project demonstrates that rural Iowa offers extraordinary locations for storytelling. Having a feature film choose Art Farm Iowa and our community is an exciting opportunity to share the creativity, character, and hospitality of Worth County with audiences far beyond Iowa."
A meet the filmmakers’ exhibition will take place on Saturday, September 5th from 3-7 p.m. at Art Farm Iowa where people can learn about the film along with being able to view and purchase original artwork associated with the film.
Art Farm Iowa has become a destination for artists, musicians, and creatives from across the country, blending contemporary art with Iowa's agricultural landscape through exhibitions, performances, artist residencies, and cultural events. Its distinctive rural setting provides an authentic backdrop that reflects the spirit of independent filmmaking.
“Art Farm Iowa is the perfect place for all of our filming purposes and beyond,” said Tsang. “Steve has created such an incredibly vibrant community here, and we feel very excited to be a part of it!”
Loesch has described One Last One as a collaborative project rooted in independent film, music, and immersive theater, reflecting the team's commitment to telling character-driven stories through a distinct DIY filmmaking approach.
“North Central Iowa is where so many of our best friends, longtime collaborators, and favorite artists are from,” said Loesch. “I live in Mason City, and 90% of our cast and crew are from Iowa. So it’s really a dream to have a home for the project here.”
Filming is expected to take place throughout Northwood and at Art Farm Iowa during the second half of October. Community members may notice production activity at various locations as cast and crew work on the feature film. There will also be a casting call for extras to be included in the film.
The production is expected to bring visitors and economic activity to the area while further establishing Northwood and Art Farm Iowa as destinations for arts, culture, and creative innovation.
Additional information about filming will be announced as more details become available.
