Freeborn County Arts Initiative and Art Farm Iowa Team Up for New Exhibition Titled “GAZE”
Freeborn County Arts Initiative and Art Farm Iowa are teaming up for a new exhibition titled “GAZE: A Study in Presence”, showcasing photographic works from the collection of Art Farm Iowa at the Freeborn County Art Initiative’s exhibition gallery in Albert Lea, MN. The exhibition will be on view from May 15th to June 28th.
GAZE: A Study in Presence is an evocative journey into the space between the observer and the observed, bringing together master photographers whose portraits and view of people capture the soul in stillness. From Tom Millea’s warm-toned platinum portraits to Jock Sturges’ intimate black-and-white explorations of youth and ritual; from Steve McCurry’s world-renowned, color drenched studies of humanity to Jeremy Kost’s richly layered emotionally charged tableaux ̶ each image invites you to linger in a moment, to meet a gaze that pivots time itself.
This exhibition explores:
- Intimacy & Distance: How a single look can both reveal and conceal.
- Light & Texture: The ways in which illumination shapes our perception of personality.
- Cultural Landscapes: Portraits that cross continents, communities, and generations.
- Memory & Presence: The tension between what we remember and what we witness now.
Join us for an opening night reception on Thursday, May 15th at 6:00 p.m. Meet Art Farm Iowa founder Steve Hanson for a discussion of the works. Light refreshments will be served.
