Becoming: America at 250

These are tumultuous time. However, America has never been a finished idea. At 250 years old, the nation remains in a constant state of becoming—shaped by land, labor, belief, conflict, and quiet endurance. This year-long online photographic exhibition honors the 250th anniversary of the United States and will be drawn from both newly made photographs and the artist’s five-decade archive.

“GAZE: A Study in Presence” is an evocative journey into the space between the observer and the observed, bringing together master photographers whose portraits and view of people capture the soul in stillness. From Tom Millea’s warm-toned platinum portraits to Jock Sturges’ intimate black-and-white explorations of youth and ritual; from Steve McCurry’s world-renowned, color drenched studies of humanity to Jeremy Kost’s richly layered emotionally charged tableaux ̶  each image invites you to linger in a moment, to meet a gaze that pivots time itself.
